A few months ago I scheduled my first leg wax, ever! I had wanted to get my legs waxed for years and years but never took the plunge. At 30 years old, I figured most of my friends and community had experienced a leg wax and I was way behind the times but after sharing about it in my stories, I realized so many of you had not and you had so many questions surrounding the experience. Prior to experiencing it myself, I had so many questions and curiosities about it that I never reached out to ask anyone about so I asked Kortany, my waxer, if she could provide my community with some more information on it. She’s answering your most saught after questions here. Meet KortanyKortany can be found on Instagram at @kortany_michelle_esthetics where you can find a full list of her services (full body waxing, facials, brow henna, lash lift, makeup), days/times she works, and even book an appointment online via the link in her bio. She provides these services at Symmetrie Studios located at 412 Front Street, Lynden, Washington. Kortany is answering everything you’ve wanted to know about waxing, here!First of all, Kortany, what made you want to be a waxer? Honestly I don’t know how to answer that question because I don’t know if I really wanted to wax when I first started out. There are so many different services an Esthetician can offer like waxing, facials, lash extensions, lash lifts/ tints, makeup, etc... but waxing was just something that came very natural to me, which made me quickly fall in love with waxing and the results I was getting from it! I tell my husband almost way too often that “I love my job!”, his response is usually something like “I can’t believe you wax lady parts, how awkward...” but it’s truly not like that at all. This is what I do everyday and I am a professional at work, so it quickly stoped being weird for me. What I love most about being in esthetics is being able to help and inspire so many people. Whether it's helping boost someone's confidence or helping them reach their goals, being in this industry is so rewarding! 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions! 1. Is my hair way too long? Sorry to break it to you but most likely it’s not long enough... Let it grow out! If you have been shaving, allow a minimum of 2-3 weeks or 1/4 of an inch growth (the length of a grain of rice) in order to achieve the best waxing results possible. 2. Should I put lotion on before my wax? Yes, Make sure your skin is properly hydrated in the week leading up to your wax appointment. Moist, plump skin will release the hair follicle easier, making for a more enjoyable waxing experience! 3. Should I shower before my wax appointment? It’s ideal to shower at least the morning before your wax appointment as clean skin allows for a better waxing experience. BONUS- most waxing professionals (like myself) provide cleansing cloths for you to use before your service to make you feel fresh and clean, so there is no reason to worry even if you don't get a shower in before your appointment! 4. Can I get waxed on my period? YES, absolutly. But for your estheticians sake PLEASE wear a tampon. However you might be a little more sensitive during your menstrual cycle, so keep that in mind before booking! 5. Can I drink before to make it less painful? It might actually hurt more. Alcohol tightens pores and makes waxing more difficult. Opened pores allows for a more enjoyable waxing experience as the hair follicle is easily removed from the pore, a tight pore will either be painful to remove or the hair will break at the skin level and your waxing experience will not be as effective. 6. When should I wax? Face: every TWO-FOUR weeks Underarms: every TWO weeks Bikini Area: every FOUR-SIX weeks Additional Body Services: every FOUR-SIX weeks 7. Popping pills before wax? Yes, take some pain meds about 30 minutes before your wax appointment to help minimize the pain. 8. Best at home after care? -Aloe Vera -Coconut Oil -Witch Hazel 9. Waxing VS. Shaving? Waxing provides smoother and longer lasting results by removing the hair from the root, whereas shaving cuts the hair right below the skin's surface, causing a prickly feel days after shaving. Waxing is also healthier because it provides a physical exfoliation, removing lifeless surface cells. 10. Is it going to hurt? Yes! Any type of waxing will hurt because your hair will get pulled out by its roots, but it won't be so bad that tears will stream down your face. You'll definitely be able to walk afterwards. Yes, there are some waxing horror stories, but those are exceptions, not the norm! Thank you, Kortany, for sharing all of that wonderful information! It is so helpful to know these details before booking or showing up to a waxing appointment. I can’t wait to see you soon for my leg wax before vacation! I’m excited that I won’t have to waste any vacation time shaving!😉🤗
If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to Kortany or myself directly! -Haley
